Climate Minister tours West Burton

We were pleased to welcome Climate Minister Kerry McCarthy and our collaboration partners to West Burton site today, where the UK’s first prototype fusion energy plant will be built.

Minister McCarthy was joined by Claire Ward, Mayor of East Midlands and Jo White, MP for Bassetlaw, along with representatives from Bassetlaw District Council and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.

The tour of West Burton site was led by Paul Methven, CEO of UK Industrial Fusion Solutions and Senior Responsible Owner for STEP. He said:

“We were delighted to welcome the Minister and collaboration partners to the home of our world-leading programme.

“STEP is a pioneering programme that will position the UK at the forefront of a global fusion industry in addition to providing jobs and investment for the Midlands region and UK.

“We look forward to working with the Minister and collaboration partners to deliver STEP and fusion energy.”
