Accessibility Statement

Accessibility Statement for the UKIFS STEP website

This accessibility statement applies to the https://step.ukaea.uk/ subdomain. It does not cover the main UKAEA website or any other subdomains.

This website is managed by UK Industrial Fusion Solutions. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen and without content being truncated or overlapping
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We are not aware of any accessibility issues with the website except for the following issues with the YouTube videos.

Issues potentially affecting everyone

  • When the mouse is hovered over the buttons in the YouTube media players, tooltips are displayed to show the button’s purpose. The tooltips disappear automatically after 3 seconds if this is done while the video is playing. A workaround is to hover over one button then another, in which case the tooltip for the second button and subsequent buttons will be persistent.

Issues affecting people with low vision

  • In the YouTube media players, some of the text that overlays the video may not have sufficient colour contrast.
  • In the YouTube media players, the timeline slider and some of the buttons do not have sufficient colour contrast.
  • When the mouse is hovered over the buttons in the YouTube media players, tooltips are displayed to show the button’s purpose. If you are using a large mouse pointer, it may obscure the tooltip, and moving the pointer may cause the tooltip to disappear.
  • In the YouTube media players, the Captions and Settings buttons may not be visible at high browser zoom levels. This does not occur with screen magnifiers such as Windows Magnifier or ZoomText.

Issues affecting people who use keyboard navigation

  • In the YouTube media players, the "precise seeking" feature cannot be operated using keyboard controls.
  • Tooltips are displayed when many of the buttons in the YouTube media player have focus. If the video is playing, the tooltips disappear after three seconds.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared on 17 February 2025. It was last reviewed on 17 February 2025.

This website was last tested on 17 February 2025. The test was carried out by Test Partners Ltd.

We used this approach to deciding on a sample of pages to test.

  1. We used an automated website mapping tool to identify all the pages on the website.
  2. We manually assessed every page to identify a minimum representative subset of pages that contain examples of each layout, component and feature, including the header and footer, search overlay, accordions, pagination links and the cookie button and overlay.
  3. We conducted a manual WCAG audit on the pages, followed by an automated test of all pages.
  4. We conducted two rounds of fixing and retesting, until all the WCAG non-conformances had been fixed.
